The name Thar is from Thul, the general term for sand region or sand ridges and Parkar literary means “to cross over”. The region was earlier known as Thar and Parkar, later they became one word. | ![]() MithiMithi became the capital of Tharparkar District in 1990, when the district was separated from Mirpur Khas to form a new District. Mithi is one of the very few towns in Pakistan where Muslims don't form a majority. More than 80% of the population in the town belongs to the Hindu community.
